The Cihuatán Alux is a 15 years old limited edition rum finished in former oloroso sherry and cognac casks.
The name, Alux, is inspired by the Mayan legend of the Aluxes, the guardian gods of the land. To celebrate the harvest and give thanks to the Aluxes the Mayan would hold a feast. Cihuatán’s master blender Gabriel Ayalaya has blended this limited edition rum to reflect the flavours of the feast with hints of cashew nuts, ginger, cinnamon, roasted corn and chocolate.
The Rum has been beautifully presented with hand numbered bottles and a label design which incorporates symbols of the Aluxes, with a macaw, a jaguar, corn and cacao.

Established in 2004, Licorera Cihuatán is the first and only Rum distillery in El Salvador. The distillery is a division of a sugar mill, that has been in production for over 100 years. Cihuatán’s great strength is that the master distiller and blender is able to oversee the entire Rum distilling process, from sugarcane seed selection to bottling. With a patient parent company the distillery has enjoyed the luxury of time to focus on aged rums, to be enjoyed neat or mixed in your favorite cocktail. Drawing inspiration from El Salvador’s Mayan heritage, who were insatiably curious, the distillery has married traditional rum crafting methods with an innovative forward thinking philosophy.
